A place to share my wares

So, I didn't renew the experimental store that I had in the Art Colony Galleria, mainly because I didn't have enough inventory. I realize I'm probably more suited to a booth or cart at the moment, but then there the process of finding the right balance of atmosphere and traffic. Let's not forget budget friendly; I wince a bit when I think of the Lindens wasted on my store experiment over the last four weeks.

Oh, and I have to finally settle on a store name, logo design yaddawho.
Yes, I do things backwards sometimes.

Sculptylicious

My mind is bursting with ideas on how I would like to contribute to life on the grid. I shall build!

However, I'm very particular about what I would like to put out there and the only way I see that happening is to master the creation of sculpties. So far I've started with Rokuro and Sculptypaint, programs that are beginner friendly and graciously supported by NCI.

However, I plan on pushing the boundaries a bit, and am welcoming the design/creation challenges ahead.

Sorted odds and ends

The past few weeks have been a time of finding my place on the Grid. Had a stint dj'ing but quickly surmised I wasn't up for revisiting that particular era of RL.

I've went ahead and impulsively rented a little shop, and alternately with much ado and research, bought a little parcel on Aglia, a PG rated sim. Because in my SL travels I've seen quite a bit of the flesh trade, and didn't want anything of the sort popping up next to my sanctuary.

As I set up house, I've been intrigued by the challenge of having attractive decor within the prim (building block) limits. Whilst shopping, I've chosen items that are unique by my standards, but mostly I wish that I could tweak them to my liking. So, if I can't buy what want (or it's prohibitively priced) I'm going to have to make it myself!

The past couple of weeks I've immersed myself in NCI classes, and am looking forward to this week's round. I've taken some piccies, and will post them shortly.

Gettin' by

As a newbie, I'm trying to make the most out of my experience in a conservative way, I suppose.
I've decided I would like to set up a small shop to sell my photos/art/textures, but require funding. And I still have so much to learn about SL and it's lands, and the culture.

I've also fully realized the need to get some Lindens for a well-rounded SL experience. I found a few hole in the wall places that pay me to dance-camp or paint-camp....might as well maximize my time online while I'm absorbing tutorials and SL blogs, right?

I seriously considering becoming a premium SLer, but I'd like to start out small and work my way up.

First visit to Caledon

Yesterday I think I've found my favorite place.

Having paid a return visit to the NCI Newcomers Training area, I noticed some of the seminars took place at the Caledon center. Upon first landing, I saw hoop-skirted women in the distance milling around the center. Even though I was dressed for a night of darkwave dancing, I made my way over. After perusing the aisles for a fair amount of time, I was greeted by a gal who kindly offered to answer questions and show me around a bit. The telehub of Victoria City, Caledon has some cool period clothes and gadgets freely available on the welcome wagons, and I partook.

I visited the Castle, admired the detail of the furniture, and the dreamy views from one of the balconies. This land has been my favorite stop thus far, and I look forward to exploring and learning more about the culture there.

Av Girl can't dance

I checked out a couple of dance clubs, standing around like a wallflower, not really sure how to get my groove on. But, not for lack of trying. I would click the dancefloor, as instructed, and nada. I did eventually have some fun with a dance ball/floor at the VooDoo lounge, and noticed there were job listings to work for the club.

Now that I got the nightclub urge out of my system, next is what am I going to do when I "grow up?" DJing sounds doable, especially while I take some time learning how to build stuff. By nature, I'm a "maker," but I need to earn some fundage while nuturing that learning curve.

First Impressions of SL

A little confusing!

I had chosen my birthplace (rez-place?) to be Avatar Island, as I was attracted by the free outfits that were offered. Upon arrival, I "looked" around and noticed that there were others there, but I only saw parts of them, like hair blowing, with a skirt below it, shoes peeking out. I figured they were still getting dressed or something. In fact, the first hour or so I couldn't see myself, and one of the first thing I wanted to was customize my look. I was frustrated when the controls were showing anything but eyes in the appearance control panels. In fact, all I could get to appear were my eyes!

I had a tough time searching Help, but eventually found answers in the SLWiki. I loaded a driver for my graphics card, and when that wasn't enough, I had to adjust my rendering to the lowest setting, and then ta-da! I appeared and could see others entirely.

I'm not sure how prevalent that issue is, but I think most non-gamer people would just walk away from SL like I almost did. Now that little glitch is fixed, I'm hoping to find new and exciting people and places!
